TPE Materials in Medical Applications: Characteristics of TPE Tourniquets

The application of TPE materials in the medical field is not a new occurrence. It started with replacing PVC as the latest material for blood transfusion tubes and has now expanded to various medical and health uses. Medical tourniquets are elastic binding straps that can stop bleeding for patients during surgeries, buying valuable time. The excellent eco-friendly and non-toxic properties of TPE have been widely recognized. Moreover, after passing relevant standard tests in the medical industry, it has been confirmed that long-term contact between human skin and TPE materials does not cause allergic reactions.

The latest TPE products used in medical TPE tourniquets have the following 7 characteristics:

1. Excellent resilience and low permanent deformation;
2. High tensile strength, which can reach more than 10MPa;
3. Dry and non-sticky surface, preventing adhesion during packaging and transportation;
4. Good low-temperature elasticity, maintaining elasticity at a low temperature of -50℃ without embrittlement;
5. Gentle material properties, causing no allergic reactions when in contact with the skin;
6. Compliance with relevant environmental testing standards in the European Union and the United States;
7. Availability of rubber compounds with different hardness (generally 45~55A).
