Case Study: Application of TPE Material ES100A-LLT in the Zipper Head Industry

I. Product Overview

Product Model: ES100A-LLT

Product Introduction: The ES100A-LLT is a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) material specifically designed for high hardness, rapid molding, and excellent hand feel. Its unique physical properties set it apart in numerous applications, particularly in products that require fast molding and a pleasant tactile experience.

II. Physical Property Characteristics

  • Flowability: Low, which helps ensure precise control of the material during the injection molding process.
  • Weather resistance: High—capable of resisting the impact of environmental changes on material performance.
  • Formability: It can be injection-molded at 200℃, meeting the demands of high-efficiency production.
  • Can it be coated with rubber?: It can be coated with PP material, broadening its range of applications.
  • Other features: comfortable feel, fast molding speed, suitable for multi-cavity mold production, and helps improve production efficiency.

III. Application Cases

Case Description The ES100A-LLT material has been successfully applied to zipper heads, meeting the process requirements for ring-pack hardware components. As a critical component in products such as garments and luggage, zipper heads have stringent requirements for material hardness, wear resistance, and resistance to yellowing. Thanks to its outstanding physical properties, the ES100A-LLT material fully satisfies these requirements, ensuring stable quality and an aesthetically pleasing appearance for zipper heads.

Application Background As consumers’ demands for product quality continue to rise, the manufacturing of zipper heads is facing increasingly greater challenges. Traditional materials often struggle to meet the requirements of rapid prototyping, high hardness, and resistance to wear, yellowing, and discoloration. Therefore, finding a new type of material has become the key to solving this problem.

IV. Development Process

Before the ES100A-LLT material was successfully applied to zipper heads, we went through numerous trials and screening processes.

  1. Preliminary test material
  2. First trial material We selected the ES98A-01 material. However, during the trial testing, we found that although the material’s hardness met the requirements, its wear resistance and resistance to yellowing were unsatisfactory. After analysis, we believe this is due to the molecular structure of the ES98A-01 material being insufficiently stable and thus easily affected by external environmental factors.
  3. Analysis of Failure Causes The molecular chains of ES98A-01 material are relatively short, making it prone to fracture or aging under prolonged stress or exposure to conditions such as sunlight and high temperatures, thereby reducing its wear resistance and resistance to yellowing.
  4. Second test sample Given the shortcomings of the ES98A-01 material, we selected ES100A-LLT for the trial sample. ES100A-LLT has been optimized at the molecular level, featuring longer molecular chains and more stable chemical properties. The trial results show that the ES100A-LLT material excels in hardness, wear resistance, and resistance to yellowing, fully meeting the customer’s requirements.
  5. Finalize After numerous tests and comparisons, we have finally selected ES100A-LLT as the dedicated material for zipper heads. We’ve further optimized its molding speed and feel to make it even better suited to the production requirements of zipper heads.

V. Notes

The successful development and application of ES100A-LLT material not only solved the challenges in zipper head manufacturing but also provided a new material option for other products that require high hardness, rapid molding, and excellent hand feel.
