  1. TPE/TPR products sticky problem characterization.

  TPE/TPR material processed products with hands to touch the surface sticky or even some sticky feeling.

  2. Analysis of the causes of sticky products.

  TPE, TPR materials are made of SEBS, SBS elastomer as the base material, adding operating oil (white oil, paraffin oil, etc., especially white oil is more common), reinforcing resin (such as PP, PS, PPO, etc.), compatibilizers, functional additives (such as flame retardants, anti-static agents, anti-UV agents, etc.) and solubilizers (such as calcium powder) blended granulation of elastomeric materials.

  2.1 The amount of operating oil added.

  The addition of operating oil is one of the essential components that can improve the plasticity of the material. TPE, TPR materials, the main hardness range of 0 to 100 degrees (ShoreA below the same), in general, the softer the material, the more the amount of oil added. But the more the amount of operating oil, the softer the material, the more likely the surface of the material is sticky.

  2.2 Influence of substrate material

  The base material used in TPE/TPR is usually SEBS or SBS, which is the hydrogenation product of SBS, and the oil absorption performance of SEBS is superior to SBS (the ethylene butene of SEBS is easier to absorb oil and higher oil absorption rate than the butadiene phase of SBS). That is, the same mass number of SEBS, SBS, SEBS can dissolve more mass fraction of the operating oil. Or that the SEBS base material TPE than SBS base material TPR (TPE industry customary SEBS base material blend modified material called TPE, while the SBS base material modified material called TPR) surface is not easy to sticky. The hardness of TPR particles of SBS base material is below 50~60 degrees, which is easy to caking in summer when the temperature is high, and the products made of TPR particles are also sticky. The TPE products made of SEBS base material, except for the super soft material with hardness below 15 degrees, will rarely appear sticky.

  3. Suggested solutions for sticky TPR products

  According to the above analysis, the TPR material with SBS base material is easy to stick to the hands, and it is more obvious when the temperature is high. For the problem of sticky TPR products, we suggest users to choose the TPE material with SEBS base material.

  4. Super soft series TPE material sticky hand problem

  In recent years, super soft TPE material is more and more users contact or recognize, mainly from the increasingly popular adult health products and simulation mannequin industry in recent years. Users who used to use silicone are gradually switching to TPE material. These products are usually made of super soft TPE with hardness of 0~20 degrees or even less than 0 degrees, and the molding process is mainly injection molding or casting (infusion). Since the proportion of oil in the material formulation is quite large, although SEBS has excellent oil absorption, it is inevitable to eliminate the problem of sticky hands on the surface of the products. Select the appropriate operating oil, improve the SEBS blending system TPE formulation, can greatly reduce the sticky products. In addition, the processed super soft TPE products, after a period of time, the surface of the sticky situation will slowly improve.
