TPE Material Development: Innovative Application of the TA75A Series in Suction Catheters—A Case Study on Medical Accessories
Time of issue:2026-03-06
I. Product Overview
Product Model: TA75A Series
Product Overview: The TA75A series is a high-performance TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) extrusion material renowned for its exceptional手感 and weather resistance. This material is specifically designed for applications that require a soft touch and excellent processability.
II. Physical Property Characteristics
- Excellent weather resistance: The TA75A series L exhibits outstanding weather resistance and can maintain stable physical and chemical properties under a variety of environmental conditions.
- Matte surface: After the material is extruded, the surface exhibits a matte finish, meeting the aesthetic requirements for medical accessories.
- Low fluidity: Low fluidity helps maintain the stability and precision of the material during extrusion.
III. Processing Performance
- Formability: The TA75A series can be extruded and formed within a temperature range of 170–180°C, making it suitable for a variety of extrusion equipment and processes.
- Easy to print: The material surface is easy to print on, meeting the requirements for labeling and aesthetics in medical accessories.
IV. Application Cases
Case Name : Suction catheter for suctioning
Case Description :
The original material used was silicone; however, due to certain limitations of silicone—such as processing difficulties and high costs—our customer is seeking a TPE material that can replicate the performance of silicone while also meeting specific requirements. These requirements include passing cytotoxicity testing, providing a comfortable hand feel, and being printable via spray application.
Import process :
- We made a preliminary attempt to use the TPU-TY70A, but found that it has low hardness and feels too sticky, failing to meet the customer’s requirements.
- Next, we tried TA75C-29. Although it exhibited good extrusion molding performance, it failed to pass the cytotoxicity test.
- The XN8501 material feels stiff and was also ruled out.
- Although TA75C-YL/TA85C-YL can pass the cytotoxicity test conducted internally by Sleda, they exhibit particles after extrusion molding, which affects product quality.
- During the pipe-cutting process, TA75C-YL-1 exhibits adhesion and is difficult to cut.
- Although TA75C-YL-2/TA85C-YL-2 meets the requirements, its cost is relatively high and the extruded surface is not smooth enough.
- After numerous attempts and improvements, the TA75A series was ultimately identified as the optimal material choice. This material not only meets the requirements of cytotoxicity testing but also offers a comfortable feel, is easy to print on, and features a smooth extrusion surface free of particles.
V. Application Background
The TA75A series material has been successfully applied in the production of medical accessories—suction tubes. As an essential component of medical devices, suction tubes place extremely high demands on the material’s biocompatibility, softness, and processability. The successful application of the TA75A-SL material has not only enhanced the quality of suction tubes but also reduced production costs and processing complexity.
VI. Summary
As a high-performance TPE extrusion material, the TA75A series has demonstrated outstanding performance and advantages in the application of medical accessories such as suction tubes. Through continuous experimentation and refinement, we have successfully identified the optimal material selection to meet our customers’ needs. Moving forward, we will remain committed to the research and development of TPE materials and their wider adoption, providing high-quality solutions for an even broader range of industries.
