Properties and Advantages of TPE Materials: Versatile, Eco-friendly, and Efficient
With the development of social science and technology, some high-tech materials have been successively discovered. Due to their special and rare properties, they can solve problems that people have not yet solved. TPE materials are widely used in daily life and industry. So, what unique properties make TPE materials favored by people? The TPE material industry has continuously improved TPE materials, making them applicable to so many industries, which is also one of the reasons. Below, we will describe in detail the characteristics and advantages of TPE materials.
TPE, whose English name is Thermoplastic Elastomer, is a general term for thermoplastic elastomers, a type of soft rubber material that can be processed and molded using ordinary thermoplastic plastic molding machines. The appearance of TPE is natural color, black, translucent or transparent round granules. TPE materials can be processed and molded by means of injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, casting, pouring, etc. TPE is a material that has the high elasticity, high strength, and high resilience of rubber, as well as the characteristics of being processable by injection molding. It is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and safe, has a wide hardness range, excellent colorability, soft touch, weather resistance, fatigue resistance and temperature resistance, and superior processing performance. It does not require vulcanization and can be recycled to reduce costs. It can either be formed by secondary injection molding, coating and bonding with base materials such as PP, PE, PC, PS, and ABS, or be molded independently.
In this industry, some friends may say that TPE is also TPR, confusing TPE with TPR. TPE is a material modified by blending with SEBS as the base material, while materials modified with SBS as the base material are called TPR. There is only a slight difference in the name. In Hong Kong and Taiwan, most people like to call it TPR, while in the mainland, most people like to call it TPE. In fact, TPE and TPR are just different names for thermoplastic elastomer materials.
Advantages of TPE materials:
Easy to process, no vulcanization required, production efficiency is greatly improved, and the molding cycle is short.
100% recyclable, reducing costs, making it an ideal material to replace rubber and silicone.
Stable properties, with good temperature resistance (operating temperature range -50-100℃), aging resistance, chemical resistance, and solvent resistance.
TPE materials do not introduce heavy metals or add toxic phthalate plasticizers during production, meeting ROHS, REACH, EN71, PAHS, and FDA environmental testing standards. It is the best material to replace PVC.
Energy-saving. Most thermoplastic elastomers do not require vulcanization or have very short vulcanization time, which can effectively save energy.
It can be processed with ordinary thermoplastic plastic molding machines without the need for special processing equipment.
With the development of science and technology, the applications of TPE will become more and more extensive. As TPE combines the advantages of both rubber and plastic, it has opened up new application fields for the rubber industry.
