Advantages, Processing Methods, and Comparisons of TPE and TPR Shoe Sole Materials

Advantages, Processing Methods, and Comparisons of TPE and TPR Shoe Sole Materials

Shoe granules exhibit different properties due to varying skeletal raw materials. Although shoe granules with polyurethane TPU as the main material have excellent indicators, their high cost limits wide application. In contrast, TPE sole materials with SEBS as the main material show the most ideal comprehensive performance.
TPE and TPR shoe materials are polymer materials made by blending thermoplastic elastomer SEBS with other functional additives. They are processed into soles through processes such as extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding. These materials have advantages such as anti-slip, low-temperature resistance, strong bending property, good air permeability, low density, high bonding strength, and the recyclability of waste materials.

I. What are the advantages of TPE and TPR sole materials?

  • Appearance and Decorativeness: TPE soles have better appearance than rubber soles, and both are not easy to deform.
  • Environmental Friendliness: TPE is an environmentally friendly new material, while rubber is not.
  • Cost Comparison: Rubber is non-recyclable, while TPE can be recycled and regenerated, making TPE soles lower in cost.

II. How are TPE and TPR sole materials processed?

They can be made into rubber products using ordinary plastic molding machines through methods such as injection molding, extrusion molding, and blow molding.

III. How do TPE and TPR soles compare with PVC materials?

  • TPE soles have better elasticity than PVC soles, which can be judged by a natural drop test (TPE soles can bounce).
  • Although PVC soles are cheap, their quality is poor and they are prone to breaking in winter.
  • TPE soles have a large market share in the shoe industry due to their low cost and recyclability, making them the most cost-effective sole materials.
Currently, TPE and TPR sole materials have gained increasing recognition from manufacturers, merchants, and consumers.
