**TPE Brittleness Explained: Common Factors and Practical Remedies**

TPE is renowned for its excellent elasticity and toughness. However, some users encounter issues with poor toughness and easy breakage during TPE material processing.

Common causes of poor TPE product toughness:

  1. Excessive filler addition reduces tensile strength and flexibility.
  2. Overuse of sprue and regrind in the material formulation.
  3. Low - molecular - weight base polymer fails to meet high - toughness requirements.
  4. Degradation due to excessively high processing temperatures, leading to embrittlement.
  5. Insufficient plasticization caused by low processing temperatures.

Solutions:

  1. Reduce filler content in the formulation.
  2. Limit regrind usage to ≤25% to maintain material integrity.
  3. Switch to high - molecular - weight base polymers.
  4. Confirm optimal processing temperatures with material suppliers.
  5. Check for under - plasticization:
    • Dull/matte surface finish indicates insufficient heat.
    • Lackluster sprue suggests low melt temperature.
