Technical Overview of Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) Raw Materials: Structure, Properties, and Applications


 

TPE raw materials are granular polymeric composites composed of thermoplastic styrene-butadiene rubber (SEBS/SBS) as the matrix, blended with inorganic/organic additives and polymer components. These materials are produced through mixing, twin-screw extrusion, and pelletization processes, resulting in rubber-like elastic properties. The initial form of TPE is spherical pellets.


 

I. Physical Appearance


 

Luster:
  • SBS-based TPE exhibits high-gloss particles
  • SEBS-based TPE 呈现 matte surface finish
Transparency & Color:
  • Available in transparent or opaque forms
  • Opaque solid-color pellets have white undertone, with slight color variations based on formulation
Particle Morphology:

II. Hardness Characteristics
As soft polymeric materials with rubber-like elasticity, hardness is a critical property of TPE. By adjusting the composition ratios of SEBS/SBS matrices and additive systems, TPE hardness (and other physical properties) can be precisely tailored to meet diverse industrial requirements. Typical hardness ranges from Shore A 00 (ultra-soft) to Shore A 95 (semi-hard).
