Today, our company is teaching everyone how to differentiate TPE material from TPU rubber compound and understand their differences. First, let's take a look at this diagram. Broadly speaking, TPE stands for all thermoplastic elastomers.

  1. Transparency

TPU material has better transparency than TPE material, and it is also less prone to sticking compared to transparent TPE material.

  1. Appearance and Feel

For some overmolded products, TPU-made products have a rougher texture and stronger friction resistance, while TPE-made products have a smoother and softer texture with weaker friction properties.

  1. Oil Resistance

TPU material has better oil resistance, while it is somewhat difficult for TPE to achieve oil resistance.

  1. Temperature Resistance

TPE material has a temperature resistance range of -60°C to 105°C, while TPU has a range of -60°C to 80°C.

  1. Specific Gravity

The specific gravity of TPE material varies widely, ranging from 0.89 to 1.3, while TPU material ranges from 1.0 to 1.4. In fact, they mainly appear in the form of blends during use, which is why there is a large variation in specific gravity.

In summary, both TPE material and TPU material belong to soft materials and possess good rubber elasticity. In comparison, TPE material excels in terms of tactile comfort, while TPU material demonstrates superior elasticity and strength.
