What is the material of SEBS in TPE?

SEBS is a linear triblock copolymer with polystyrene as the terminal segment and ethylene-butene copolymer obtained by hydrogenation of polybutadiene as the intermediate elastic block.SEBS does not contain unsaturated and double bonds, so it has good stability and aging resistance.

  II. SEBS uses.

  1. SEBS has good UV stability, oxygen resistance and thermal stability, so it can be used in roofing and road repair asphalt.    2. SEBS has good compatibility with paraffin wax, so it can be used as a more flexible surface coating for paper products.

  3. SEBS is temperature insensitive when heated without significant shear flow, so it can be used as a template for IPN. (The basic principle of IPN: two immiscible polymers, can achieve the interpenetration of entangled chain segments, such as the first can be cross-linked by covalent bonding of two immiscible polymers "locked" together.)

  4. SEBS oil blend of organic solutions can replace natural latex manufacturing surgical gloves and other products, because SEBS does not contain unsaturated double bond and high purity, here and there are the following two advantages: (1) antioxidant, ozone resistance is better; (2) natural rubber contains proteins, which can cause dangerous allergic reactions in some patients, and this blend will not.

Third, the specific properties of SEBS.

SEBS has excellent aging resistance, both plasticity and high elasticity, can be processed and used without vulcanization, the corners can be reused, widely used in the production of high-grade elastomers, plastic modification, adhesives, lubricant adhesives, fillers and sheathing materials for wires and cables, etc. SEBS has good weather resistance, heat resistance, compression deformation resistance and excellent mechanical properties:.

  (1) Better temperature resistance, its embrittlement temperature ≤ -60℃, the maximum use temperature reaches 149℃, and its decomposition temperature is greater than 270℃ under oxygen atmosphere.

  (2) Excellent aging resistance, the rate of decline of its performance is less than 10% after one week of aging in the artificial accelerated aging box, and the decline of its performance is less than 10% after 100 hours of ozone aging (38℃).

  (3) Excellent electrical properties, its dielectric constant is 1.3*10-4 in one kHz, 2.3*10-4 in one MHz; volume resistance is 9*1016ω/cm for one minute; 2*1017ω/cm for two minutes.

  (4) Good solubility, miscibility and excellent oil-filling properties, soluble in many common solvents, its solubility parameter is between 7.2~9.6, can be miscible with a variety of polymers, and can be oil-filled with oils commonly used in the rubber industry, such as white oil or naphthenic oil.    (5) Elastomer that can be used without vulcanization, processing performance is similar to SBS, the edges can be reused, in line with environmental requirements, non-toxic, and in line with FDA requirements.

  (6) The specific weight is lighter, about 0.91, the same weight can produce more volume products.

  IV. Material appearance

  (1) White powder-like

It is pure SEBS polymer without adding any other co-mingled substances.

  (2) Granular (transparent or solid color)

SEBS powder with oil, resin, filler, compatibilizer and other functional additives blended together and modified into granular material.

  V. Processing method

SEBS powder polymer is usually not used and processed separately.SEBS blended composite pellets can be manufactured by injection, extrusion and blow molding and other thermoplastic processing methods for various objects.SEBS and SBS differ in product structure and slightly different in processing temperature. In terms of processing temperature, SBS processing temperature is generally between 150~200℃, while SEBS is generally between 190~260℃; SBS processing requires a lower shear rate, while SEBS processing requires a higher shear rate; for injection molding, SBS generally uses a moderate shear rate, and extrusion generally uses a low compression ratio screw, while for SEBS processing, it is advisable to use High injection rate and high compression ratio of the screw.
