  1.TPE/TPR overmolded ABS concept

  TPE/TPR ABS is the process of injection molding, that is, the first injection of ABS plastic, and then the processed ABS products into another set of molds, the TPE/TPR material injection into the surface of ABS parts, this process is generally completed in two injection molding machines, which injection of soft rubber TPE mold is called overmold. Now the more advanced two-color and multi-color injection molding machine has been mature application, suitable for products need a variety of materials compound injection situation, two-color injection molding compared to the traditional secondary injection molding, shorten the injection processing time.

  2. Material characteristics of TPE/TPR covered ABS

  a. Hardness - Different product applications require different material hardness. Considering the bonding between TPE and ABS and the tactility of the material, the hardness range of ABS plastic for TPE/TPR overmolding is generally 30~90A Shore.

  b. Basic physical properties - The TPE elastomer material used for bonding ABS should have the necessary adhesion to ABS, good flow processability and moderate surface wear resistance and white scratch resistance. According to the customer's product design, product performance requirements, the physical requirements of TPE will be a little different, TPE suppliers (plastic materials) will generally be based on customer sample requirements, to provide the most suitable and cost-effective TPE modified materials.

  3.TPE/TPR adhesive ABS sticky reasons for analysis.

  a, TPE / TPR rubber formulation of the problem. Suggest that customers, especially the first contact TPE / TPR material customers, try to find a certain strength of the TPE, TPR manufacturers to cooperate. Some traders themselves do not know much about TPE/TPR, and the TPE/TPR rubber he provides may itself have poor adhesion with ABS.

  b. The temperature used for secondary injection molding is not suitable. Low temperature, TPE/TPR plasticization is not enough, insufficient fluidity, in addition to affecting the appearance, more importantly, will affect the TPE/TPR and ABS in contact with the fusion bonding performance. The suitable processing temperature is related to the TPE/TPR rubber formula and mold design. It is recommended to consult with the supplier when processing and adjust according to the actual production and processing conditions.

  Supplementary: TPE/TPR injection temperature of 160~220 degrees for ABS, and the hardness range of 30~90A. Generally, the secondary injection temperature of SEBS-based TPE is higher than SBS-based TPR under the same conditions.
